Description
The World’s First Indigenous Astronaut Signs Children’s Book At Nez Perce National Historical Park For Immediate Release: Dr. John B. Herrington, explorer, adventurer, and former astronaut is looking forward to signing his first children’s book, Mission to Space, on Saturday, January 14th, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, at the Nez Perce National Historical Park, Highway 95, in Lapwai, Idaho. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Herrington is a member of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, and flew to the International Space Station in 2002 aboard the shuttle Endeavour. The historic mission included three space walks, the delivery of the Expedition-Six crew, the delivery, installation and activation of the P1 Truss, and the transfer of cargo from Shuttle to the Station. He also rode a bicycle from Cape Flattery, Washington, to Cape Canaveral, Florida, in 2008 to call attention to the importance of education in STEM-related fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Dr Herrington works with a variety of organizations including the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). His visit to the Park will be the first book signing in the Valley. There will be a limited amount of books available and early purchase is suggested.
